Description

HN paper is a high contrast paper for use in imagesetters with a helium neon exposure source.

Features

  • Resin-coated with optically brightened paper base
  • Provides extremely black and sharp images
  • Compatible with most rapid access chemistries

Safelights

Handle paper in complete darkness until processed if possible. If necessary, paper may be handled for no longer than 2 minutes under dark green safelighting. If a safelight must be used, keep the paper at least 4 feet from the safelight.

Recommended Safelighting:

  • Low wattage incandescent lamp with Wratten #3 (dark green) filter or equivalent
  • EncapSulite™ T30/ND1.5 fluorescent safelight

Storage

Keep unexposed paper and processed paper in a cool, dry place. Process paper as soon as possible after exposure. Rewrap unused paper in the inner wrap to help protect it from changes caused by humidity variation. Humidity variability can affect flatness of paper.

Exposure

HN paper is intended for imagesetters equipped with a helium neon exposure source operating at 633 nanometers. Exposure settings may vary slightly according to processing conditions and type of imagesetter. Follow the imagesetter manufacturer's recommenda- tions for setting exposure and calibrating halftones. Acceptable working reflection DMax is usually in the 1.70 to 1.90 range. Densities may vary with the densitometer.

Processing

HN paper is best suited for rapid access processing. Refer to the container labels for mixing and other instructions regarding the processing chemicals.

Processing Recommendations

Before handling or using any chemical product, be sure to read the Material Safety Data Sheet for health hazard data, precautionary information and suggested first aid.

Use these recommendations as a starting point. For optimum results, use:

  • RLD rapid laser developer (1:4)
  • RLF rapid laser fix (1:6 or 1:5)
  • Processing time for paper can be shortened if processing exclusively from film. Use a 20 second starting point when processing under this condition.
Process Time Temp Replenishment Rate (50% Area Exposed)
RLD developer* 20-40 seconds 95°F (35°C) 0.40 ml/sq inch (620 ml/sq meter)
RLF fix 20-40 seconds 90°F (32°C) 0.35 ml/sq inch (540 ml/sq meter)
* These conditions are also applicable to most rapid access processing chemistries.
